aGLIFF Red Carpet Gala-A night At The Driskill Hotel

The Academy Awards hosted their 83rd annual Oscars on Sunday night, while right here in Austin TX, aGLIFF hosted their 2nd Annual Red Carpet Gala at at The Driskill Hotel.

Its was Natalie Portman and Colin Firth who were the big winners at the Oscars, however right here in Austin TX, aGLIFF rolled out the red carpet for some of Austin’s finest.

The event began with a cocktail mix and mingle hour in the hotels lobby. Guests walked the red carpet in style while having their picture taken by photographers and being interviewed by our lovely host for the night, Rebecca Havameyer.

The fashions for the night reached highs, lows and everyone in between. I saw jeans, dresses, suits and tuxes. Although some people showed up in casual dress, and others in complete costume, most of the guests dressed to impress and ready to walk the red carpet.

As we took to our seats and salads were served, Rebecca greeted us with a grand introduction by having her male escorts remove their shirts. She wanted us to “get more comfortable…” Nothing says Oscars like two shirtless men, right? Either way I thought it was a great act to set the mood of the event, it allowed everyone to relax, drink, and have some fun. Emcees for the night Rebecca Havamayer and YNN’s very own Rich Segal kept the energy going and the crowd entertained during commercial break.

The Victorian Room was the perfect space to host this event. The room’s dramatic decor and grand stair case was the perfect prop to help set the nights style, as well as allowing it to fell intimate enough to be watching the Oscars with close friends.

The Driskill did a fantastic job hosting this event. Their service was prompt, professional and effortless. Their Chef served up a 3 course meal that included a Bouquet Salad, Braised Texas Shortribs, and their famous 1886 Chocolate Cake.

The open bar was a huge hit with everyone. aGLIFF really knows how to take care of their guess!

Overall the evening was wonderful, we were so thrilled that some many people came out to support aGLIFF and all that they do for the community. This event was a great success and I look forward to next years aGLIFF Red Carpet Gala.

Happy 30th to Michael Kors-New York Fashion Week

Today we celebrate and pay homage to one of Americas’ greatest fashion designers, Michael Kors.

His latest collection for Fall 2011 debuted during New York Fashion Week and it marked his 30th anniversary as a Fashion Designer. I waited in much anticipation to view the live stream of his newest collection, and the wait was worth it!

Over the years, Michael Kors has become one of my favorite designers. His style is sophisticated, sexy, and chic. Michael Kors has the ability to stay progressive and stylish without loosing his sense of the classic elements that are essential to fashion. His attention to detail and shape have made him a favorite among women.

First off I have to give compliments to the element of simplicity in this show. I am so tired of seeing crazy hair and makeup on the runway. It just doesn’t make since, and its so 5 years ago. Lets get back to basics. Not only was the hair and makeup very simple but I also felt that the collection in its entirely was very simple in style, color, shapes and silhouettes.

The dresses in the collection had a mix of halter top necklines, racerback and thigh high slits. The draping was perfection.

Michael Kors has truly establish himself as one of the best in the business. I can’t wait to see what he does next. Happy 30th Michael Kors.

Grammy’s Fashion – Glitter & Gold

The stars were out on Sunday night ready to hit the red carpet and celebrate the past year in music at the Grammy’s. There was one apparent theme on the red carpet this year, glitter and gold.

Kim Kardashian left nothing to the imagination in her Kaufman Franco gown and nude pumps. Miley Cyrus wore a Roberto Cavalli animal print and sequin covered gown, while  Heidi Klum shimmered in a Julien Macdonald gown and python Christian Louboutin pumps.

One of my favorites of the evening, Selena Gomez wore this perfectly fitted J. Mendel dress, with subtle and beautiful hair and make up. Grammy winner Miranda Lambert showed all of her curves in Georges Chakra and LeAnn Rimes in Reem Acra. I thought LeAnn’s gown fit her poorly in her upper body, and made her look a little too thin.

Jennifer Hudson looked beautiful and showed her stunning new figure in Versace. Never one to be afraid of showing skin, Jennifer Lopez wore this Emilio Pucci mini, which I loved. (Her Cartier earrings are valued at $97,500!)  Katy Perry hit the red carpet in Giorgio Armani. I’m really not a fan of the angel wings.

My other favorites of the evening were the stars that stood out from everyone else on the red carpet. Julianne Hough wore this gorgeous Malandrino gown, that was fresh and liberating from all of the sparkle that was on the carpet. Perfect for the warm California weather.Eva Longoria looked ravishing and stylish in this Ashi Studio minidress. She made up for the ruffles by showing so much leg. Styled by Robert Verdi, he knew what he was doing!

Between the fashion and the performances at this years Grammy’s, it was definitely a show not to miss. What were your favorite looks and your favorite performances?

The Darker Side Of Christian Siriano – New York Fashion Week

From Project Runway to the Runways for New York City Fashion Week, Christian Siriano has worked restlessly to establish his mark in the fashion industry. His fall 2011 ready to wear collection is the latest example of his growth and evolution into an amazingly talented fashion designer.

Christiano Siriano 2008

Siriano deputed his latest collection on Tuesday night (Feb 8, 2011) at the Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. His fall 2011 collection was a more toned down and simplified rendition then what we usually see. I feel like he is finally getting it, he is evolving from a custom designer into a high profile fashion designer!

His fall 2011 collection started off with mostly black pieces, which I love. It was heavy on the dark side, however, there were a few pieces with more sophisticated coloring. Towards the end we saw some moss forest green and blush champagne pink.

He showed several asymmetrical sheer skirts and a few sheer tops. Several of his pieces were paired with a simple turtleneck top and a jacket to layer.

My favorite piece by far was this black and green strapless ball gown with ruffled tulle. To me, this dress is the very signature to the Christian Siriano brand; it is girly, sexy, and sophisticated. It’s princess meets Black Swan. I wonder if we will see this dress on the Red Carpet anytime soon.

Overall, I loved his collection. Siriano has definitely come a long way since his days on Project Runway back in 2008. His fall 2011 collection shows his versatility in style and image and gives hint to the direction of the Christian Siriano Brand.
